Name: Rick Flores

Gender Pronouns: He/Him/His/El

What do you currently do for work and/or school?: M.ED College Student Personnel Services, Arkansas State University. Currently working as a Student Life Specialist & Engagement Navigator at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, WA.

Without positions or titles, how would you describe yourself?: Fellow working in the Division of Student Affairs on various projects and familiarizing myself with different functional areas.

What are you passionate about?: I am passionate about making the student experience in higher education better and more inclusive. I strive to always be an advocate for students and to do my best to make my campus community better.

Why is the representation of scholars of color important to you?: Coming to college was intimidating because I did not see a lot of professionals that looked like me and felt that I didn't have allies. It increased my imposter syndrome. I finally met a professional that I identified with and I felt a big sense of relief and I hope to provide that relief for students in the future.

If people are interested in getting connected to you, how can they?: They can email me at rick.d.flores@wsu.edu and/or reach me through instagram @rickdflores

Anything else you would like us to know?: I was heavily involved in the Cougar Marching band and my multicultural fraternity, Gamma Iota Omicron Fraternity, Inc. during my undergraduate career at WSU. Serving my community and playing music are large passions of mine that I will continue to do! I am aspiring to work my career in Student Affairs and find ways to improve the student experience at whatever college or university I work at.

Thank you Rick for sharing space with us!

Stay tuned everyone for more Scholars of Color profiles. Interested in being showcased yourself? Please email the Scholars of Color team at scholarsofcolor@reclaimingyourhappiness.com and we will get back to you shortly.
